Desktop parts in a case that closes

SurfThing names 1080p as the resolution this laptop is built for — a smaller picture than the desktops draw, in exchange for a machine that leaves the room. The ports matter more here than on a desktop, because the projector cable and the launch monitor both arrive at the same edge.

  • Processor. Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 2.7 GHz, up to 5.4 GHz turbo (Carl’s).
  • Graphics. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Mobile, 8 GB GDDR7.
  • Memory and storage. 32 GB DDR5; 2 TB NVMe SSD.
  • Video out. One HDMI with HDCP; two DisplayPort 2.1 over USB-C, one with power delivery.
  • Other ports. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, combo audio jack, RJ-45 gigabit LAN — the wired port a launch monitor wants.
  • OS. Windows 11 Home.

What matters in a golf room

Three things the laptop decides

A laptop in a simulator is a trade: portability for picture size. SurfThing is clear about which side of that line this one sits on.

Resolution

1080p, in SurfThing’s own words — the desktops in this catalogue are the 4K machines.

Portability

Slim enough to move between rooms or travel with the launch monitor, which is the whole case for choosing it over a tower.

The ports

HDMI plus two DisplayPort-over-USB-C outputs and a gigabit Ethernet jack, so the projector and a wired launch monitor connect without an adapter (Carl’s).

Whose numbers these are

Precision does not build this computer and does not test it. Every figure on this page is SurfThing’s or Carl’s Place’s, quoted from their published pages.

The launch monitor measures the shot. The PC decides what you see of it.

Which launch monitor is the PC driving?

The PC follows the launch monitor and the software it runs. Enter the room in the Space Calculator and the build names both.
