PIG-BENQ-AK700ST

BenQ’s AK700ST 4K Golf Simulator Projector, supplied through Carl’s Place. A 4K unit with a 1.2× zoom on a 0.69–0.83 throw, so there is a foot or two of latitude in where it mounts — and 3D keystone for a room where the mount cannot sit square. Three years, parts and labor (BenQ US).

Placement

Where it hangs

The throw ratio is 0.69–0.83 with a 1.2× zoom, so the mounting distance has a range for a given screen width. BenQ publishes a 102.5% projection offset: ceiling-mounted, the lens sits above the top of the image by that margin of the image height, so the projector rides high and out of the swing without lens shift. Precision sizes the image to the screen’s height on Carl’s Place openings, and the Space Calculator reports the resulting distance from the screen and the drop below your ceiling for the opening that fits your room.

What matters in a golf room

Three specifications that decide the picture

Brightness sells projectors. In an enclosure it is the geometry — throw, offset and lag — that decides whether the picture is where the golfer needs it.

The throw

The throw ratio is 0.69–0.83 with a 1.2× zoom, so the mounting distance has a range for a given screen width. BenQ publishes a 102.5% projection offset: ceiling-mounted, the lens sits above the top of the image by that margin of the image height, so the projector rides high and out of the swing without lens shift.

The light source

Laser — 20,000 h. 4,000 lumens at 4K UHD (3840 × 2160).

The lag

BenQ publishes input lag of 16.7 ms at 1080p 120 Hz; 33.4 ms at 1080p 60 Hz and 4K 60 Hz. Which mode applies depends on the PC and the simulation software driving it.

Whose numbers these are

Precision does not manufacture this projector and does not test it. Every figure on this page is BenQ’s. Dynamic contrast figures are deliberately left off; they do not describe a lit golf room.

Fill the height, not the width. The difference is where the projector hangs.

Where would it hang in your room?

The Space Calculator places the lens for the opening that fits your room and reports the mount drop. If it lands over the swing, it says so.
